Responsibilities

Clinical duties include recording patient history (chief complaint, ocular history, past surgeries, medical conditions, medications, allergies, learning assessment, falls risk, family history) and performing routine examinations and measurements as directed by physicians. Assess pupil response to light and check for afferent pupillary defect; measure central visual field using Amsler Grid; instill eye drops under physician direction; measure and record visual acuity (distance and near); measure intraocular pressure using applanation or related tonometry methods. Perform Humphrey visual field testing, OCTs, IOL Master measurements, Pentacam measurements, refractions, color vision and depth perception testing; screen for ocular motility disorders; use slit lamp to examine the eye surface. Support in ultrasound imaging (A-scan), keratometry readings, and intraocular lens power calculations; take fundus photos as needed; assist with in-office procedures. Maintain exam room equipment, ensure medications and supplies are current, maintain sterilization processes, and comply with microbial control standards. Compile and enter data for clinical studies and assist with other clinical research projects; teach patients proper contact lens handling; assist with patient education on procedures. Nonclinical duties include triaging Epic in-basket messages, responding to patient questions, processing medication refills, obtaining insurer authorizations, and supporting front desk staff to improve patient flow and physician efficiency. Provide input on templates/schedules to maximize patient flow and maintain general medical knowledge of ocular/anatomic physiology, systemic diseases, and ocular emergencies. Maintain required COA ophthalmic technician certification and perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent One year of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician Must obtain Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from JCAHPO within 18 months of start date CPR certification Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education per the Johns Hopkins Equivalency Formula Job Details
