Responsibilities

Maintain order within the institution, enforce rules and regulations, and supervise activities and work assignments.

Conduct cell checks and searches for contraband; resolve disputes; and support discipline enforcement.

Observe, inspect, and report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards; ensure safe and secure operations.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

Possess a high school diploma or GED

Be 21 years of age or older

United States citizen

Meet DPSST Physical Standards

Possess reading comprehension, report writing, and retention abilities

Satisfactorily complete an ODOC background investigation OAR 259-008-0015

Special Qualifications

Must pass NTN test with a minimum score of 70 percent in all areas

Good employee work history

Have a history of law abiding behavior OAR 259-008-0070

Pass a psychological evaluation and risk assessment as required by HB 2936

No evidence of substance abuse

Proficient using computers

Must possess a valid driver's license

Required and Requested Skills The National Testing Network provides dimensional ratings on applicants. We review for:

Good ratings: teamwork, ability to take control of situations, support of management goals, integrity, and communication with staff

Acceptable ratings: grammar and understanding of written content

Low risk ratings: professionalism around offenders, conduct, and authority

Nature of the Work As a Correctional Officer, you will work in a team setting to maintain order, enforce agency rules, and ensure safety and security. You will monitor activities, supervise work assignments, and perform duties such as checks and searches for contraband, settling disputes, and enforcing discipline. Observing, inspecting, and reporting safety, sanitary, and fire hazards is routine.

Step 3: DOC will review your application; a criminal history check will be completed using multiple sources.

Step 4: Complete electronic Statement of Personal History (eSOPH). You will have 14 days to complete it and provide references.

Step 5: Background investigation following eSOPH submission.

Step 6: If selected, you may be offered a conditional job offer and must pass a medical exam and psychological evaluation per DPSST requirements.

Requirements For Employment Applicants must pass CJIS fingerprint-based background checks and maintain CJIS eligibility. Some felony convictions may disqualify. Additional background checks will be performed. CJIS clearance occurs at the conditional offer stage.
