Job Description And Duties
Under general supervision of an Accounting Administrator II, and utilizing knowledge of governmental accounting, auditing, financial reporting, and procedures prescribed by the State Controller’s Office (SCO), the Accounting Administrator I supervises a group of professionals in the Local Government Policy Section responsible for legislative and accounting-related policy work that provides guidance to local government agencies. The incumbent will exercise a high degree of independence and collaborate with the section manager.
Duties Performed:
(Candidates must perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodations.)
Provide input in work group meetings and perform accounting policy work including, updating guidelines, uniform accounting systems, and budget documents prescribed by SCO. Work with SCO’s advisory committees, commissions, other working groups, and on special projects assigned to the Section. Train, develop, and instruct staff on policy-related work and review completed staff work. Review and analyze proposed accounting standards and legislative proposals and provide comment as to impact on local governments and SCO. Assist in planning, hosting, and presenting the Controller’s Annual Conference with County Auditors. In consultation with the section manager, represent SCO at various meetings with local government officials and staff using diplomacy and appropriate communication techniques. Evaluate and assess staff performance to determine training needs. Utilizing supervisory and leadership techniques, train, coach, motivate and assist in professionally developing staff to accomplish the Section’s goals and objectives.
