Mortgage Loan Officer

Fortera Credit Union Location:
Clarksville, TN Position Purpose
Responsible for origination of mortgage loan products offered through the mortgage loan department. Contact and create relationships with potential mortgage loan clients, market the Credit Union’s services to various outside parties, and secure mortgage loan engagements with new and existing customers. Conduct initial pre‑qualification interviews, prepare loan application packages, liaise with branch staff, and train staff as needed. Conveys credit extension policies in accordance with Credit Union and investor guidelines, meeting scheduling and documentation requirements and production expectations set by the Vice President, Mortgage Origination. Serve members, prospective members, builders, developers, and Realtors professionally and network to cross‑sell Credit Union services. Essential Functions And Basic Duties
Generate new mortgage loan clients and new loans from existing clients. Research, visit, call, contact, network and communicate with existing and prospective customers and referral sources regarding their financial and mortgage‑related needs and opportunities for sales. Typically performed in person to develop borrower leads. Establish and maintain effective professional business relations with Credit Union members, Realtors, building professionals, and other potential sources of business while protecting the Credit Union’s professional reputation. Market Credit Union products and services to existing and prospective customers and referral sources strategically and professionally, promptly answer questions, respond to requests, and resolve problems related to mortgage loans. Take advantage of cross‑sell opportunities. Perform these functions on a regular basis, no less than every work week, most often outside the Credit Union’s place of business. Loan Origination Functions
Interview, take applications, and process preliminary documentation on loan requests. Discuss loan alternatives, credit criteria, interest rates, and loan documentation clearly and positively. Perform follow‑up work necessary to achieve conditional approval within established timeframes. Promptly and courteously notify members or prospective clients if the loan is referred back to the Loan Officer because of problem ratios or credit ratings. Advise members or prospective clients of loan approval or denial, explaining denials precisely and clearly. Complete lending operations in accordance with Credit Union policies and legal requirements. Coordination and Communication
Coordinate functions with related departments and branches, provide support as needed, act as liaison to branch staff, and train branch personnel in mortgage loan products and online applications. Keep management informed of area activities and any significant problems. Attend and participate in all meetings, trainings, and committees as required. Complete required records and reports. Additional Duties
Stay informed regarding changes in lending standards, legal requirements, and local real‑estate and competitive lending trends. Ensure that any shared/temporary work area or Credit Union property, including assigned equipment, is safely maintained and secured. Employ adequate safeguards to ensure security of member information and any lead or prospective client information. Accomplish all essential tasks despite no regular work hours scheduled. Participate in all required trainings, meetings, and committees. Satisfactorily complete all required compliance training and comply with all regulations, including Bank Secrecy Act compliance. Participate in community and civic events to promote awareness of the Credit Union. Ensure work area and assigned equipment is clean, secure, and well maintained. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Performance Measurements
Obtain additional mortgage loan business from new or existing clients, primarily through effort outside the Credit Union’s place of business, meeting or exceeding production expectations set by management. Maintain good business relations with members, potential clients, referral sources, and business professionals. Process loan applications and related financial data in accordance with credit union policies and legal and regulatory requirements. Keep loan documentation, files, and related reports complete, accurate, and timely; submit monthly reports as scheduled. Maintain good working relations with Credit Union personnel and management; provide assistance as needed and keep management informed. Demonstrate Fortera’s Core Values satisfactorily. Qualifications
Education / Certification
Associate degree in Business or equivalent combination of formal training and experience. State Mortgage Originator License required or must be obtainable within 6 months. Access to personal transportation covered by adequate, current insurance and a valid driver’s license. Required Knowledge
Understanding of the foundation of determining credit worthiness. Knowledge of industry standard products, procedures, processing, and underwriting guidelines. Familiarity with title reports, insurance, and appraisals. Experience Required
Three to five years of related mortgage industry experience preferred. Minimum of one year mortgage loan originating experience required. Skills / Abilities
