POSITION OBJECTIVE
Working under general supervision, perform tasks to support the latest biomedical research in the lab. To perform technical procedures and experiments according to instructions/ protocols. The research technician will assist in preparing and performing laboratory and research-related work, including the use of mouse and zebrafish models to understand the molecular basis of hearing and deafness. The laboratory also focuses on translation work to test gene and drug-based therapies to prevent hearing loss in mouse models of hearing loss. This position will work with animals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Plan and carry out projects in accordance with general plans. Assist with mouse husbandry, including monitoring, setting breeding, weaning, and collecting samples. (10%)
Conduct a series of experiments to supply scientific information as part of a larger project. Perform therapeutic pre-clinical investigation in animal models of hearing loss. Carryout out studies in mice to evaluate short-term and long-term efficacy of small molecule drugs to mitigate hearing loss in mouse models. (25%)
May assist in developing improved techniques, projection methods or procedures. Assist with electrophysiological recordings to assess hearing in mice, including recording brainstem response to external sound stimulus. (15%)
Collect and analyze data. Assist with survival surgeries and tissue harvest from mice for evaluation of drug delivery. (15%)
Under limited supervision, conduct current molecular biology and protein analysis protocols, including but not limited to isolation and analyses of nucleic acids and protein-protein interactions using cell culture and other in vitro methodologies. (15%)
