Overview
The Oregon Hearing Research Center’s Cochlear Blood Flow Pathophysiology Laboratory is seeking a qualified individual for postdoctoral work in cochlear blood flow. Studies concern inner ear blood flow regulation, the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying noise-induced hearing loss, and cochlear blood flow remodeling after damage.
Function/Duties
Harvesting cochlear tissues and performing immunohistochemistry, confocal imaging, PCR and RT-PCR analyses, requiring mastery of complex principles and practices.
Measuring blood flow with intravital fluorescence microscopy using established laboratory protocols and assessing auditory function with auditory brainstem response.
Animal husbandry to maintain mouse colonies and genotyping of transgenic mice.
Administration of agents to animals.
Analysis and reporting of data.
Writing scientific papers and presenting data at scientific conferences.
Maintenance of lab operations, including placing animal orders and detailed record keeping.
Training and supervising junior research fellows on protocols such as cochlear tissue whole-mount preparation, cell culture, immunohistochemistry, and real-time PCR; coordinating independent and collaborative research activities for lab staff.
Required Qualifications
PhD
Knowledge of animal physiology and biology
Compliance with Code of Conduct, Respect in the workplace and applicable policies, procedures and agreements related to position, department or OHSU as a whole
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Preferred Qualifications
Several years in a laboratory setting with experience in animal physiology, gene transfer, transgenic mouse husbandry, tissue dissection, cell culture and immunohistochemistry, confocal imaging, data collection, basic molecular biology methods (e.g., Western blot, PCR), and data analysis and representation at scientific meetings.
Experience with vascular biology
All are welcome Oregon Health & Science University values a diverse and culturally competent workforce.
