Job Description
Postdoctoral Fellow for Cardiovascular Development and Regeneration A full-time Postdoctoral Fellow position is immediately available in Dr. Deqiang Li's Laboratory at the Center for Vascular and Inflammatory Diseases, University of Maryland School of Medicine. This position is supported by a newly awarded NIH R01 grant and an American Heart Association foundational award. The research focuses on understanding mechanisms of cardiovascular development and disease, particularly identifying novel signaling pathways regulating myocardial development and cardiomyocyte differentiation and maturation using in vitro and in vivo approaches. Research models include cell systems and mouse models, such as induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and conditional gene knockouts. Techniques employed include CRISPR/Cas9 Genome Editing, AAV, single-cell RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, confocal microscopy, multicolor flow cytometry, surgical models, and ultrasonic and telemetric measurements of cardiovascular function in mice. The University of Maryland School of Medicine was ranked 12th in U.S. News and World Report's 2021 rankings of "Best Medical Schools: Primary Care" and 34th in "Best Medical Schools: Research". Applicants must have a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. degree granted within the past three years, with advanced training in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, and animal genetics and/or pathology. Experience with animal models and molecular biology skills are required. The candidate should be highly motivated, demonstrate scientific independence, possess excellent English speaking and writing skills, and have peer-reviewed publications. Responsibilities include designing and executing experiments related to cardiac development, disease, and regeneration, analyzing and presenting data, and authoring abstracts and manuscripts.
