Job Summary The University of Colorado Department of Anesthesiology invites applications for a full-time (0.8–1.0 FTE) faculty position as Instructor (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) for the UCH Acute Pain Service (APS). This position will work in collaboration with the UCH APS multidisciplinary team (Physician, Advanced Practice Provider, PharmD) to provide clinical care to inpatients referred to the APS. This care will include assessment and management of post-surgical pain involving epidural, nerve block, IV PCA, ketamine infusion, lidocaine infusion and consultations on acute and chronic pain.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive assessment and management of pain for hospitalized patients.
In collaboration with the Acute Pain Service physicians, obtain a comprehensive health history, perform a physical examination, and establish a diagnosis and patient treatment plan.
In collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, evaluate and manage a follow‑up plan based on the patient’s response.
Document in the medical record the health appraisal data, history, physical findings, diagnoses, treatments, and progress of patient.
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to maintain good communication among families, primary care providers, and other referral services.
Practice holistically, considering patients’ physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.
Promote an environment of mutual respect among the interdisciplinary team, referring services, patients, and families.
Provide pain‑related nursing and resident physician education.
Assist with monthly anesthesia resident orientation and onboarding process.
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in developing and implementing pain‑related policies and procedures, order sets, and clinical documentation templates.
Participate in quality improvement projects, including initiation and assisting with problem identification and data collection.
Participate in pain‑related research and evaluation.
Independently seek opportunities to expand own clinical knowledge and skills and achieve professional development goals.
Participate in professional affiliations and networks with professional colleagues.
Participate in department/division/hospital committees as needed/requested.
This is a daytime position that will require Saturday coverage.
Work Location Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Master of Science in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from an accredited program and national board certification as an Nurse Practitioner.
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with national board certification as a Physician Assistant.
Currently hold, or ability to obtain, unrestricted NP or PA licensure in the State of Colorado.
Ability to be fully credentialed within the University of Colorado Hospital as an Advanced Practice Provider in the area pain management.
Eligible to obtain or already hold prescriptive authority in the State of Colorado.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of acute pain management‑related experience.
Two years of hospital inpatient acute care‑related experience.
Experience as an advanced practice provider.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work with an interdisciplinary team.
Excellent problem solving and conflict mediation skills.
