Overview

Touro University Nevada (TUN) seeks a personable, adaptable, and goal‑driven professional for the Learning Specialist position within the Office of Academic Services and Institutional Support (OASIS). This full‑time, permanent role reports to the Director of OASIS and collaborates with departments in the Division of Student Affairs, university faculty, and academic programs. The Learning Specialist provides services directly to students to maximize the success, retention, and graduation of College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) and College of Health & Human Services (CHHS) students. Services include developing learning strategies and solutions for adult learners in graduate professional programs, one‑on‑one advising, workshops on learning and study strategies, and referrals to peer tutoring, study hall, writing, and accommodation services supervised by OASIS. The successful candidate demonstrates dedication to the University’s core values of social justice, intellectual pursuit, and service to humanity through their work.

Responsibilities

Meet with students individually to assess needs and develop strategies to improve study skills, test‑taking skills, time management, and research efficiency.

Continuously monitor student progress and suggest academic strategies.

Assist students in developing APA writing techniques and assignment strategies.

Refer additional services such as tutoring, counseling, disability accommodations, or external resources as needed.

Prepare high‑stakes decision discussions (board exam failure, leave of absence, dismissal) with students.

Act as a backup for the ADA Learning Specialist and complete ADA training.

Process accommodation requests and document individual meetings.

Develop and deliver workshops for current and prospective students.

Assist faculty and staff in identifying students requiring writing, counseling, or referrals.

Participate in university meetings, committees, and events such as White Coat, Commencement, and other university events.

Engage in professional development through research, campus presentations, and conferences.

Uphold policies and procedures in university catalog and program handbooks.

Provide exceptional service and articulate the mission and values of TUN.

Support and celebrate students from a variety of identities.

Work flexible hours intermittently (evenings, Sundays) for special events.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education

Master’s degree required (Science, Health Science, Social Science, Educational Psychology, Education, or related field with a concentration in adult learning).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with graduate and/or professional students.

Experience with graduate level life or health sciences.

Experience in higher education, preferably student or human services.

Experience in adult learning.

Experience with academic research and graduate‑level writing.

Experience with APA and editing academic papers/manuscripts.

Experience conducting formal academic research.

Experience teaching, training, and delivering presentations.

Experience working in online environments.

Skills & Abilities

Ability to present engaging material to high‑achieving graduate students.
