Overview
Supervisory Recreation Specialist (Sports Coordinator) – This position is located within the Fitness Division, Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Department, Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, TX. The incumbent will technically and administratively oversee the management, supervision and operation of the MWR Sports and Aquatics Programs. Responsibilities
Manage a comprehensive Intramural Sports and Aquatics program. Plan, supervise, and administer a year-round sports program including individual and team competitions, intramural leagues, tournaments and informal activities. Conduct clinics or seminars to train coaches, officials and participants; train and develop athletes in individual or team sports. Recruit, hire, train, motivate staff and evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing aquatics activities. Adapt programs as necessary and enforce safety regulations to protect swimmers; ensure facility safety and proper maintenance of pool deck, pool house, and water chemical levels. Plan swimming programs (e.g., swim instructions, team competition, springboard diving, water exercise classes) and adapt activities to fit conditions, funds, facilities, equipment and staff. Deliver Sports and Aquatics program functions in accordance with applicable directives and policies. Evaluate patron needs and interests, establish or modify programs to meet requirements and goals; schedule and coordinate recurring and non-recurring programs to maximize participation across age groups and interests. Arrange supplies and equipment; establish internal controls to protect income, property, assets and records; maintain fiscal accountability for activities. Prepare and justify annual operating budgets for NAF and APF; project expenses for staff, instructors, officials, payroll, equipment, travel, maintenance and facilities; manage resources for sound fiscal policy. Solicit volunteer help and ensure all volunteers pass background screenings and have signed volunteer agreements. Resolve patron complaints and solicit feedback to improve service quality. Coordinate program efforts with managers of other recreational facilities (e.g., Fitness, IT & Tours, K-Bar, Liberty/Single Sailor Programs, Parks and Picnics, Library). Perform other related duties as assigned. Requirements
Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successfully complete a background investigation (fingerprint-based). Must pass E-Verify; resolve discrepancies as a condition of employment. Must undergo Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process with two forms of identification from Form I-9. May be required to pass pre-employment examinations. Valid State driver’s license required. Salary must be paid by Direct Deposit/EFT. Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must satisfactorily pass CYP background screenings prior to employment and CNACI check if applicable. Qualifications
Specialized experience directly related to the duties described above, qualifying at the next lower level or equivalent. Your resume must clearly demonstrate the required experience, knowledge, and abilities. A college degree with emphasis in recreation or related field, or related equivalent experience, demonstrating knowledge of policies, goals, regulations, and procedures for administering recreational sports programs. Knowledge of the Navy Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Program and the ability to interpret and promote it through various channels. Skill to resolve disputes and maintain control during active sporting events, applying current rules and regulations. Knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity principles and Affirmation Action Plans. Knowledge of personnel management, including recruitment, selection, hiring, training and development. Ability to plan and lead recreation programs that sustain participant interest and deliver physical, psychological, and social benefits. Knowledge of budgeting planning and resource management. Must provide a copy of college transcripts showing degree awarded. A Bachelor Degree in General Recreation or related field is preferred, or Three (3) years of specialized experience in any sports/aquatics-related field.
