Time off benefits for this position include: Generous paid vacation time and sick leave 17 paid holidays, including Federal, Jewish, and floating holidays 2 Wellness Days to be taken any time during the year to support employees’ mental wellness Position Overview: JFS is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the Refugee Resettlement team as the Volunteer Coordinator. In this role, you have the opportunity to use your volunteer management skills and administrative experience to make a meaningful difference in your community and help change lives across San Diego. The Volunteer Coordinator plays an integral role on the team and supports the entire department by recruiting, training and supporting volunteers, as well as supporting department staff with new, recurring and special volunteering needs. The Coordinator will also handle data entry and reporting for all departmental volunteering activities and will coordinate closely with their supervisor in tracking, managing and maintaining all data and databases relevant to volunteers. This position reports directly to the Responsive Services Supervisor and works closely with the Director of Refugee Resettlement and the rest of the Refugee Resettlement team. Responsibilities: Provide volunteers to support client and program needs in coordination with case managers and supervisors Conduct community outreach to educate on current state of refugees and their needs Identifying new partnerships for volunteer recruitment Recruit, onboard and train volunteers following JFSSD’s volunteer engagement and RR grant regulations, ensuring compliance of federal funding at all times Manage day-to-day volunteer needs by maintaining communication as needed Ensure clients and volunteers have a positive working relationship and intervene as needed if conflicts arise Coordinate volunteer roundtables and to allow volunteers to share best practices with each other and enhance volunteer engagement Develop monthly volunteer newsletter to keep volunteers up-to-date on department updates, client arrivals, upcoming events, learning opportunities, resources, and more Track volunteer hours using JFSSD protocols and maintain efficient database management using Galaxy Digital Develop physical reports for Director and Volunteer Engagement on volunteer hours Coordinate with case managers and other staff to find best clients to match volunteers with for services ranging from transportation, resume building, English tutoring and more Manage World Refugee Day event planning using volunteer support as needed Participate in weekly all staff meetings and each programs individual meetings to provide weekly check ins about volunteer needs and matches Meeting clients in their home to complete workshops and conduct friendly match introductions/follow ups Identify new resources throughout the community and connect resources to staff Provide ongoing trainings to volunteers Serve as main contact for volunteers, not passing working to case managers/liaison Conduct home visits to introduce clients to volunteers Coordinate special projects and manage interns assigned to these projects Collaborate with development team on group volunteer opportunities, ensuring all donation are accurately tracked and reported following JFS guidelines Participate in collaborative meetings with partners and other refugee service providers in the community and build new partnerships to connect refugees to resources and support Serve as liaison between JFS Volunteer Engagement and RR, keeping in mind the needs of RR program and staff capacity Stay up to date with changing volunteer protocols such as hourly value, reimbursement policies and etc. Update trainings/orientations as required Identify trends in volunteer concerns/questions, develop helpful resources Maintain and update Volunteer Resource Drive Take part in ongoing trainings from HIAS, JFS and external partners Resolve conflict between volunteers/clients and staff, using critical thinking skills to manage potential challenges before arising and working with team to minimize friction Other duties as assigned Skills/Experience/Abilities That Are a Must-Have: Strong conflict resolution skills, demonstrating ability to build, manage and maintain relationships Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to diversify approach when working with diverse communities Previous experience communicating with individuals who have limited English proficiency; Able to work with and relate to participants and be culturally sensitive Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time, and meet deadlines; strong attention to detail Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, customers, community service providers and businesses Bachelor’s degree preferred, Associates with 3+ years of professional experience acceptable Valid California Driver’s License and operating vehicle with insurance Skills/Abilities We’d Like You to Have: Understanding of U.S. Refugee Admissions Program preferred Fluency in a second language including Pashto, Dari, Arabic, Farsi, Swahili, French, Burmese or Karen is preferred Familiarity with refugees, asylees, immigrants, young adults, and low-income populations Important Notice: Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
