Job Overview Reporting directly to the Golf Course Superintendent, the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent plays a key role in maintaining the Robert Trent Jones–designed course, driving range, and club grounds. The position involves supervising staff, managing equipment, and ensuring playability and aesthetics within budget.
Responsibilities
Assist in planning and supervising greens, tees, fairways maintenance; supervise employees and equipment.
Perform preventative maintenance on golf course equipment; ensure proper application of pesticides and fertilizers.
Grind reels and perform height of cut checks.
Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects in maintenance equipment.
Instruct equipment operators; supervise pesticide applications; calibrate pesticide application equipment.
Modify daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
Daily supervision of crew – scheduling, training, safety compliance, time and attendance approval, performance.
Maintain accurate supplies records, logs, and DEC/federal regulations compliance.
Operate and troubleshoot computerized irrigation control system.
Assist in developing budget recommendations and control expenditures.
Supervise staff hiring, distribution of work assignments, performance assessments, and disciplinary measures.
Qualifications
2–3 years managerial experience as a golf course Superintendent or 1st Assistant Superintendent or related field.
Working knowledge of greens, tees, fairways maintenance; seeding, cultural practices; plant, shrub, tree care; fertilizers, soil conditioners; herbicides, pest control methods; drainage control; irrigation systems.
Proficiency in computer use; Microsoft Office and other applications.
Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work for efficient employee and equipment utilization.
Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
Ability to build and maintain effective employee and public relations.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree or certification in turfgrass management or related program.
Familiarity with computerized irrigation control systems (mechanical, hydraulic, electrical components).
Knowledge of watering principles and practices; identification of drought–stress areas on turfgrass.
Education High school diploma or equivalent. Associate’s degree in plant science or turf grass management preferred.
Work Schedule Monday–Friday full‑time, 12 months; occasional weekends.
