Montgomery County Public Schools The special education teacher provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities and works in collaboration with the general education teacher. Monitors and evaluates outcomes for students with disabilities. Assists in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP). Physical Demands: As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. Special Requirements: Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement. The wage range for this position is a salary between $62,558 and $127,334 based on education & experience. For information about benefits, please visit the Montgomery County Public Schools website. Knowledge of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) curriculum for the grade/content range of the position, MCPS special education program, and thorough knowledge of IEP, learning theory, differentiated instruction, data collection, best instructional practices, research-based reading instruction, multicultural education, assessments. Ability to provide instructional support and excellent communication skills. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in special education. Fluent in learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessment required. Student teaching in the specific area of exceptionality or two years teaching experience at level appropriate to assignment (elementary or secondary). Meets Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for Standard Professional Certification I (SPC I) in special education.
