Overview
Position Description: We are looking for an Environmental Engineer on our Nevada Gold Mines Exploration Team. The successful candidate will perform a variety of field work and administrative work to ensure that all environmental compliance obligations related to managing exploration drilling programs and permits are achieved. This includes completing state and federal permitting actions; ensuring field compliance with approved permits; and coordination with mine site exploration teams and environmental teams.
Responsibilities
Apply for Notice level exploration permits along with Exploration Plans from State (NDEP) and Federal Regulators (BLM). Ensure completion of regulatory reporting, bond updates, and modifications to reclamation permits
Plan and track reclamation activities
Maintain developed compliance systems for all exploration projects
Track and ensure compliance with all project related government agencies obligations and permits
Coordinate archeological surveys, biological surveys and oversee cultural resources management program
Ensure completion and maintenance of the internal Environmental Standards
Oversee spatial data management for various projects
Ensure conformance with NGM Environmental Management Standards
Assist with environmental training of NGM employees, contractors, and others
Oversee inspections of operations to ensure permit compliance including accompanying regulatory inspectors on periodic inspections of project sites
Schedule surveying of disturbance along with tracking and reporting to government agencies
Responsible for periodic, after hours on-call response to environmental incidents as needed
This position requires the ability to regularly walk over uneven, sloped, rocky, wet or icy ground and the ability to lift 40 or more pounds consistently and safely
Perform other duties as assigned including but not limited to safety interactions, audits and inspections and assist with safety support to Drilling Services Team
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Ecology or related field required
Three (3) years’ experience in environmental compliance in an industrial setting, including regulatory agency interactions required
Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills required
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously required
Familiarity with compliance systems and ISO 14001 preferred

About Nevada Gold Mines Nevada Gold Mines is a joint venture between Barrick Gold Corporation (61.5%) and Newmont Goldcorp Corporation (38.5%), combining their significant assets across Nevada to create the single largest gold-producing complex in the world and realize the full potential of these mines through synergies and best-in-class operational improvements.
