Job Title: Automation Engineer The Automation Engineer will be responsible for developing and executing approved projects on the site’s Technology Roadmap. These projects will drive the site towards integrating Industry 4.0 Practices across all processes on the shop floor. This engineer will lead project management of new projects and troubleshooting for existing processes from an automation perspective, including control systems, PLC programming, and data acquisition. The ideal candidate will have a passion for technology improvements, Industry 4.0, Automation, and/or Robotics to support safety, quality, and productivity goals.
Essential Duties:
Troubleshoot existing automation controls across multiple process lines, including PLC programming and equipment integration into production.
Identify opportunities for future projects focused on Industry 4.0, new production requirements, and quality improvements.
Develop a strategic Technology Roadmap for future projects at the site.
Manage and implement Automation/Improvement projects, collaborating with the Group Automation Manager, site engineers, and IT to ensure secure plant network integration.
Perform process analysis and data analytics to improve manufacturing processes for cost reduction, quality, and efficiency.
Develop and maintain data collection systems for production equipment.
Implement inventory and work tracking solutions.
Prepare and present multi-year technology strategy plans and monthly project status reports to Senior Management.
Support root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions for quality and process issues.
Coordinate and provide training on software/network systems to engineering, maintenance, and production teams.
Provide PLC and HMI programming support for production equipment.
Qualifications: Required:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
Experience with automation equipment and process integration.
Strong technical, critical thinking, and support skills in a production environment.
Effective communication skills, including creating presentations.
Engineering design, project management, and analytical skills.
Preferred:
Lean Six Sigma certification or experience.
Leadership skills and ability to influence without direct authority.
Effective communication to oversee and motivate teams.
Willingness to travel for training, plant visits, or corporate meetings.
Ability to assess ROI on automation projects using metrics like OEE, scrap, and downtime.
Experience managing third-party integrators.
Proficiency in Allen Bradley PLC/HMI platforms, Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, and Profinet protocols.
Working Conditions:
Ability to work long hours in a sedentary position, using computers and performing repetitive motions.
Ability to lift objects of at least 25 lbs.
Ability to work in noisy environments and follow safety guidelines with PPE.
