Athletic Facilities Specialist (Student Affairs)

Hopkins Athletics and Recreation is a multidivisional department with 22 programs competing at the NCAA Division III level and two programs (men’s and women’s lacrosse) at the NCAA Division I level (BIG 10 Conference). The department hosts a variety of recreational activities such as club sports, intramurals, and fitness programming. The Athletics Facilities Specialist supports operations and maintenance of top-rate indoor and outdoor athletic and recreation facilities, including Practice Field, Homewood Field, Baseball Field, Track and Field Complex, Tennis Courts, Newton White Athletic Center, and Ralph O’Connor Recreation Center. The role maintains facilities and ensures they are prepared for scheduled events, and may run errands as requested. Specific Duties & Responsibilities Perform event-related setup and break-down for athletic and recreation events, including moving goals, posting signage, restroom duties, handling banners, cleaning facilities, and inspecting spaces to ensure safety and a high-quality experience. Consult with supervisors to determine field needs and scheduled use, including lining/marking, grading, grooming, and placing equipment such as goals, nets, pitching cages, and related items. Maintain fields to meet intercollegiate standards and NCAA guidelines; operate equipment for outdoor facility maintenance (tractors, bobcats, trucks, Gators, lifts, mowers, tools, etc.). Utilize scaffolding and ladders; perform custodial duties including floor care and cleaning. Transport and set up equipment and supplies for athletics events and activities; manage inventory and maintenance records. Repair, modify, and maintain athletic equipment; ensure proper labeling and safety of work areas. Maintain facility grounds, walkways, and waste disposal; remove snow/ice as needed for safety and compliance. Enforce facility rules and assist guests; assist with security of spaces as needed with University Police and department staff. Assist with deliveries and ensure safety at worksites; communicate safety issues to supervisors. Perform other duties as assigned. Key Relationships Direct supervision by the Assistant Director, Facilities Operations. Work closely with student-athletes, coaches, department staff, patrons, and campus stakeholders. Working Environment Full-time bargaining unit position with frequent early morning, evening, and weekend work; hours determined by a supervisor. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Valid driver’s license with ability to operate vehicles legally. Ability to operate large equipment (trucks, grounds equipment, field marking machines, etc.). Ability to lift 50 lbs or more. Team player with ability to follow instructions. Preferred Qualifications One year of related work experience; general knowledge of Athletics and Recreational Sports. Additional Information This is a Bargaining Unit position. Newly hired employees in Bargaining Unit roles are considered probationary for 90 calendar days. Benefits eligibility begins after the probationary period. Classified Title and Working Title, salary, schedule, FLSA status, and location are as noted by the department.
