Who We Are Looking For Phoenix Tailings is looking for an Electrical Engineer II to take ownership of designing, building, and deploying electrical systems that support our rare earth and critical metals processing technologies. This role will play a key part in bringing lab and pilot-scale systems online, integrating control and power systems, and scaling clean metallurgy from concept to reality. The ideal candidate is both technically rigorous and hands-on, with experience in industrial power distribution, control systems, and hardware implementation. This is a multi-site role based out of our Exeter, NH and Burlington, MA facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement power distribution, motor control, and instrumentation systems for new and existing process units
Create and update detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent
Specify and select hardware components including PLCs, VFDs, circuit protection devices, sensors, and actuators
Build, install, and commission electrical panels and field wiring for R&D and pilot systems
Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems to improve safety, reliability, and performance
Ensure all electrical work complies with relevant safety codes and standards (NEC, NFPA 70E, UL, etc.)
Support system integration with process engineers, including sensor feedback, alarms, and automated control logic
Contribute to electrical documentation packages including BOMs, settings, test plans, and maintenance procedures
Lead hands-on electrical assembly work as needed to meet project milestones
Identify opportunities for system standardization and design-for-scale in preparation for commercial deployment
Qualifications
B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
3–6 years of experience in electrical design and implementation in an industrial, manufacturing, or R&D environment
Proven experience designing and commissioning electrical systems including panels, power distribution, and controls
Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical (or similar) for schematic and layout development
Strong understanding of low- and medium-voltage electrical systems, motor control, and instrumentation
Familiarity with safety and regulatory standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA, UL)
Experience specifying and configuring industrial electrical components (PLCs, VFDs, relays, etc.)
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment across multiple physical sites
Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently on complex electrical systems
Passion for building sustainable, real-world solutions to global materials challenges
