Position Information TxDOT's Bridge Division is looking to hire a Bridge Load Rating Engineer I – IV based in Austin, TX. This Engineer will work in an established team to help TxDOT ensure the safety of the travelling public, perform and review simple and complex analyses of bridges to determine the safe load carrying capacity, participate in the instrumentation and the load testing of bridges, and help ensure compliance with TxDOT policy and Federal requirements related to load ratings and load posting. Using your skills, you will help TxDOT’s 25 districts and the state of Texas create a stronger, more resilient transportation network.

Performs transportation engineering work in the area of bridge analyses and load ratings. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. Performs complex transportation engineering work in the area of bridge analyses and load ratings. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. Performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in the area of bridge analyses and load ratings. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues arerarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence. Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in the area of bridge analyses and load ratings. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product. Ensures compliance with National Bridge Inspection Standards Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support. Reviews designs and load ratings of bridges and related structures prepared by other engineers and technicians. Makes presentations and represents TxDOT. Writes reports, specifications, and test procedures. Rates and monitors load carrying capacities of bridges. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Transportation Engineer II – Performs all of the above duties plus: Assists districts with bridge inspection-related matters. Develops training courses and/or materials. Serves as a primary help desk resource for routine technical and policy issues. Acts in an advisory capacity on administrative, technical, regulatory and engineering aspects of transportation. Performs inspections, structural evaluations and analyses of bridges and related structures that have appraisal and condition ratings or are recommended for closure. Transportation Engineer III - Performs all of the above duties plus: Performs advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts. Performs advanced and complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and transportation planning studies. Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development. Transportation Engineer IV - Performs all of the above duties plus: Chairs or serves as a member of a contract selection team. Coordinates and/or monitors consultant contracts related projects. Develops short-term and long-term goals and coordinates planning activities and resources required to meet goals. Monitors contract performance, evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant's compliance with the terms of the contract, and/or prepares and delivers a written evaluation of the consultant's performance. Negotiates fees, explains scope of work and monitors consultant inspection contracts. Serves as a project manager overseeing consultants performing advanced and complex engineering work. Performs highly complex structural analysis of bridge designs. Minimum Qualifications: Education : Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS. Experience : (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis .Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications Licenses and Certification s: - Mandatory: Licensed Prof Engineer - Mandatory: Safety Impact Certificate **Safety Impact certification is not required at the time of application. The Safety Impact certification will be issued by TxDOT at the time of hire *Professional engineers licensed in another state
in the United States,
