Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft maintenance, repair, and alterations. Extensive knowledge of airframe and powerplant construction and operations. Extensive knowledge of FAA and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and other statutory and administrative guidelines related to work safety and aircraft maintenance standards and procedures. Skill in using a wide variety of hand tools and test equipment to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair aircraft. Ability to troubleshoot aircraft malfunctions and perform necessary repairs. Ability to follow established procedures and oral and written instructions. Ability to identify trends in malfunctions and take appropriate actions to improve system reliability and safety. Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain work-related records and prepare reports. Proficiency in using a computer and related software. Educational requirements include a high school diploma or GED, along with possession of a valid FAA Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic certificate. Experience requirements include four years in turbine engine helicopter maintenance (two with Airbus models), or two years in fixed-wing aircraft maintenance, or equivalent experience as a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Aircraft/Powerplant Mechanic. Additional requirements include meeting FAA regulations for Inspection Authorization (Title 14 CFR Part 65.91 - 65.95). Preferred qualifications encompass completion of specific maintenance training programs, including Airbus H125, Safran Arriel 2D, Cessna Caravan, and Pratt and Whitney PT-6 training. Job Description Perform highly skilled inspection, maintenance, and repair of fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft to ensure airworthiness, including certification of repairs and obtaining FAA Inspection Authorization within one year of hire. Conduct daily and periodic inspections, perform repairs on various aircraft systems, and certify airworthiness according to regulations and manufacturer specifications. Operate and maintain a wide array of maintenance equipment. Perform major and minor repairs, overhauls, and alterations, and test repaired systems. Maintain detailed maintenance logs and records, review trends, and manage inventory and supplies. Schedule preventive maintenance and stay updated with FAA regulations, technical manuals, and safety bulletins. Perform other related duties as required. Working Conditions Work may involve activities on ramps, within hangars, or outdoor environments in a subtropical climate, often in adverse weather and high noise conditions. Tasks may require traversing uneven terrain, positioning oneself for aircraft repairs, and maintaining availability for after-hours assistance or emergencies. Work hours include nonstandard shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays, with frequent heavy physical exertion involved in handling aircraft materials and equipment.
