Job Summary

Perform blood collection and specimen processing. Assist with clerical duties as requested. Maintain laboratory collection turnaround time. Adhere to phlebotomy procedures and blood bank banding requirements. Support laboratory workflow and provide training to new team members.

Key Responsibilities

• Practice positive patient identification at all times.
• Demonstrate human kindness and courtesy in all patient and coworker interactions.
• Follow isolation and hand sanitization procedures.
• Perform venous and capillary punctures on all age groups of inpatient and outpatient populations, utilizing appropriate collection techniques.
• Collect Blood Bank samples and follow written collection and Blood Bank banding procedures. Demonstrate accuracy and good penmanship.
• Maintain order and cleanliness of phlebotomy trays, stations and storage rooms.
• Prioritize work activities to maintain laboratory turnaround time and organize draw requests for efficiency.
• Assist with phlebotomy training under the direction of the supervisor and/or coordinator.
• Process specimen intake and distribute to testing areas of the laboratory.
• Use good judgment when problem solving and request help when needed.
• Take responsibility for the department workflow and assist all team members to maintain workflow and efficiency, fostering teamwork and collaboration.

Required Education and Experience

• High School diploma or GED.

Licensure and Certifications

• All states: BLS‑CPR within 90 days.
• Phlebotomy certificate preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience in an acute care facility (3 months) preferred.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

• Excellent customer service and time management skills.

Pay Range

$15.00 – $20.63 per hour
