Equine Surgeon Staff Veterinarian Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists (CRES) invites applications from dedicated, proactive, and mission-oriented Surgeons with strong communication skills for our staff Equine Surgery and Emergency Veterinarian role. The successful applicant will be an integral part of the team and will provide the highest quality of veterinary surgical care and expertise, exceptional client service, and the optimal engagement of the veterinary medical team to maximize case outcome, productivity, profitability, and growth.

In this role you will be a key clinician in the hospital which provides state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical services to enhance equine health, while upholding and advancing the philosophy, mission, and core values of CRES while reporting to the Clinical Director of CRES for clinical operations accountabilities. You will also educate clients and referring veterinarians on the highest quality medical, surgical, and preventative care, along with addressing and resolving client concerns arising from the surgical or medical care.

The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Participate in the delivery of a high-quality clinical service in equine diagnostics, with emphasis on lameness, imaging, and soft tissue diseases. Perform and complete surgical treatment plans with clinical excellence. Cultivate and motivate a high performing, highly communicative culture where a service-oriented approach, continuous improvement, and team orientation are valued. Foster communications with clinicians, staff and clients in a diplomatic, approachable, mutually respectful and customer-driven environment. Prescribe and administer drugs and vaccines as appropriate and within industry guidelines. Promote the safety of patients, clients, and associates by ensuring the hospital team utilize safe techniques, following standard practice guidelines, and maintaining clean, sterile and organized treatment areas, exam rooms and laboratory areas. Demonstrate integrity and ethics in all actions and behaviors Positively represent the hospital in the professional community and to the general public; Serve as a role model and mentor to ensure success for co-workers and the hospital; Employees working in the hospital must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.

Required Qualifications DVM, VMD or equivalent degree from a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association and 3-5 years of relevant experience. Familiarity with PET and Standing CT Imaging Systems Must possess outstanding demonstrated clinical skills. Experience in soft tissue surgery, laparoscopic surgery, equine sports medicine, lameness, and rehabilitation, with a proven record of success as a veterinary specialist in a complex referral environment. Demonstrated excellence when communicating with clients, colleagues, house officers, students, and technicians. Must have the capacity or potential to develop referral caseload in a specialist equine hospital. Well-developed and demonstrated evidence of collegiality. Able and willing to participate in emergency on call program. Preferred Qualifications Board certification by the American or European College of Veterinary Surgery. The appointee will be expected to participate in clinical emergency duty in surgery and critical care with other CRES surgeons, specifically 33-50% on call coverage annually. Intermittent ambulatory calls may be a component of service expected.

Important Details about the Position This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY. We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position. While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.

Who We Are: Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists (CRES), is a full service hospital that provides surgical, medical, imaging, and rehabilitation services, and relies on two full time surgeons. The Equine Surgeon will partner with the Clinic Director to provide full time surgical coverage. The CRES facility located within walking distance of Belmont Park, is a satellite clinic of the Cornell University Hospital for Animals. The hospital offers a full complement of advanced orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, regenerative therapies, an internal medicine and critical care service, and a broad array of diagnostic modalities including advanced imaging (standing MRI and nuclear scintigraphy), high speed treadmill endoscopy, arthroscopy, laboratory services, both routine and emergency surgical care, and access to the resources of Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine (CV) and the New York State Diagnostic Laboratory.
