Job Overview We are looking for a dedicated full‑time hospital veterinarian to join our Vetco Total Care Full Service Veterinary Hospital in Portland, OR. As a hospital partner, you will provide comprehensive patient care, lead and mentor other staff, and collaborate with the Hospital Medical Leader and Area Medical Director to uphold the highest standards of care.

Essential Job Functions

Provide excellent patient care through physical examinations, diagnosis, treatment, and preventive care tailored to patient signalment, lifestyle, and environment.

Utilize a problem‑based approach to develop complete problem lists, differential diagnoses, diagnostic plans, and treatment protocols based on test results.

Document all patient observations, examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and client interactions in the medical record concisely and accurately.

Perform routine and complex surgical procedures, including spays/neuters, abdominal exploratory, and mass removals.

Perform routine and complex dental procedures, including full examinations, radiographic evaluation, extractions, and oral surgeries.

Develop treatment plans for day‑hospitalized patients, transition them to overnight care as needed, and coordinate with referral hospitals for continuity of care.

Other Duties And Responsibilities

Participate in rounds at the beginning and end of shifts as an incoming or exiting doctor.

Disseminate knowledge to staff to improve patient care and communication with clients.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education / Experience

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA‑accredited veterinary school.

Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state where the hospital is located or the ability to obtain licensure by the start date.

Current DEA license and, if applicable, Controlled Substance license in the state of employment.

USDA Category I (or equivalent) accreditation, or completion within two months of hire.

Proficiency in anesthesia and routine surgeries such as canine/feline spays, neuters, mass removals, and dental procedures.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; compassionate, compassionate, and professional demeanor during stressful situations.

Strong teamwork orientation, ability to learn new techniques, and openness to change.

Work Environment This role is conducted in the Vetco Total Care hospital environment, requiring frequent bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 lb), and standing for extended periods. The position involves substantial direct client and patient contact.

Salary Range $83,700.00 – $177,700.00 (state‑specific regulations apply). Hourly rates and total compensation reflect experience, location, and qualifications.
