Full Service Veterinary Hospitals, our veterinarian position is the most immersive role in the hospital. Our hospital veterinarians work with quality equipment, a supportive medical leadership team, and a skilled paraprofessional team who are encouraged to expand their skills as subject matter experts in dentistry, nutrition and more. Essential duties and responsibilities include: Provide excellent patient care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care according to patient signalment, lifestyle, and environment. Develop problem-based plans with a complete problem list, differential diagnoses, diagnostic plan, and appropriate treatments based on diagnostic results. Document all observations, examinations, diagnostics, treatments, medications, client interactions, and diagnoses in the medical record clearly and concisely. Perform routine and complex surgical procedures, including spays/neuters, abdominal exploration, and mass removals. Perform routine and complex dental procedures, including full dental examinations, radiograph evaluation, and extractions/oral surgeries. Develop treatment plans for day hospitalization, transition patients to overnight care as needed, and coordinate with referral hospitals for continuity of care. Other duties and responsibilities include: Participate in rounds as incoming or exiting doctor at the start and end of shifts. Disseminate knowledge to improve care and communication for patients and clients. Perform additional duties as assigned. Nature of supervision: Direct supervision by the Hospital Medical Leader or Area Medical Director with professional autonomy in patient care while adhering to Petco Veterinary SOPs. Planning and problem solving: Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills for expeditious diagnosis of patient problems. Impact: Contribute to a productive practice with high-quality standards of care, supporting a cohesive, well-trained, and motivated team that promotes employee retention, patient well-being, and customer satisfaction. Educational/Experience requirements: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA-accredited school. Active licensure without contingencies in the practicing state or ability to obtain by start date. Current DEA license and, if applicable, Current Controlled Substance License. USDA Category I Accreditation or completion within two months of hire date. Comfort with anesthesia and routine surgeries (canine and feline spays/neuters, mass removals, dentals). Excellent written and verbal communication skills; compassionate and professional demeanor under stress. Strong telephone and computer skills; team player willing to learn and adapt. Work environment: Majority of duties in Vetco Total Care hospital; physical demands include bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods.
