Role Overview Under the general supervision of the Senior Clinical Dietitians Specialists and the Clinical Nutrition Director/Supervisor, the Clinical Dietitian provides nutritional care to hospital patients throughout their stay at Brown University Health. The role involves interviewing patients and family members, reviewing electronic health records, developing nutrition plans of care, monitoring outcome data, and documenting progress in the electronic health record.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assess nutritional needs and develop individualized nutrition plans of care.
Interview patients and/or family members and review electronic health records to assess nutritional needs.
Monitor and evaluate indicators and outcome data related to the nutrition diagnosis, goals, preferences, and intervention strategies.
Document patient progress and update nutrition plan as necessary in the electronic health record.
Direct the activities of support personnel in the assigned work area, as needed.
Participate in the discharge planning process and recommend programs to enhance readiness for discharge.
Conduct individual and group patient nutrition education both inpatient and outpatient, preparing the patient and his/her family for continued care at home.
Provide nutrition education to physicians and health care professionals through seminars and workshops.
Participate in department quality improvement programs and financial and productivity measures.
May represent Food & Nutrition Services at interdisciplinary meetings and community/media programs.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Food and Nutrition or related concentration from a US accredited college/university approved by ACEND.
Completed ACEND accredited supervised practice program and successfully passed the national examination for Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN) by the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR).
License as a Dietitian/Nutritionist in Rhode Island (required within 3 months of hire).
Proficient in the nutrition care process and human physiology in adult and pediatric disease states.
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Experience of one to two years as a Clinical Dietitian (preferred).
Proficient computer skills in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Additional preferences: membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Pediatric Nutrition Practice Group (PNPG), or Medical Nutrition Practice Group (MNPG).
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Sits, stands, and walks intermittently throughout the day. Exposed to a normal patient care environment. May be required to lift up to 10 pounds. Hazards minimized with adherence to established safety precautions. Travel to off‑site facilities may be required.
PAY COMPENSATION Pay Range: $57,340.19 – $94,602.87.
