Job Summary The Warranty Engineer is responsible for collecting and analyzing data about end users warranty claims to ensure customer satisfaction, field exposure safety, and contribute to the continuous improvement of product and process quality, while optimizing warranty costs for the company. By identifying trends and early signs of potential warranty spikes, creating failure mode paretos and leading root causes analysis of physical warranty returns, the Engineer alerts the Production, Quality, Supplier Quality and R&D teams of potential manufacturing defects or product design robustness issues, enabling corrective actions and improving vehicle reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Warranty data collection: Collect, analyze and track customer complaints via dedicated customer portals.
Generate monthly reports of IPTV or C/100 warranty claim occurrences by customer and vehicle platform.
Warranty data analysis: Identify trends by developing breakdown paretos (failure modes, exposure by country/region, mileage trends, seasonal impact).
Technical analysis: Identify the root causes of product failures in conjunction with Quality, Supplier Quality, Engineering and Production departments.
Field analysis: Visit customers' warranty centres to collect physical returns and perform on‑vehicle evaluations of endurance field fleet test vehicles.
Field Risk Assessment: Propose innovative approaches to real field exposure analysis, including retrofitting data trackers onto field test vehicles and/or developing partnerships with local dealers or taxi companies.
Corrective actions and Continuous improvement: Propose, coordinate and validate corrective action plans to avoid recurrence; leverage field data and Lessons Learned to improve product reliability and strengthen quality consistency.
Warranty Cost Optimization: Track warranty costs, maintain an up‑to‑date list of warranty cost‑sharing ratio agreements by customers, and provide data to Commercial Teams to negotiate/reduce liability.
Customer support: Act as a technical contact on warranty issues with customers.
Continuous improvement: Exploit feedback from the field to improve product reliability and strengthen upstream quality prevention.
Read Across & Lessons Learned: Track and communicate across the organization and recall campaigns from the Brake Hose industry; develop lessons learned/checklists to facilitate read‑across and prevent similar issues.
Reporting: Implement and monitor performance indicators related to warranty claims (return rate, costs, countermeasure effectiveness, etc.).
Desired Profile
Education:
Mechanical, materials, automotive, engineer or Quality.
Experience:
2-5 years automotive sector, mandatory warranty management, former OEM SQE Engineer with knowledge of warranty systems.
Technical skills:
Knowledge of automotive customer warranty systems and mastery of quality problem‑solving tools.
Analytical skills:
Ability to exploit and interpret complex data to propose concrete solutions.
Soft skills:
Rigour, critical thinking, results‑oriented, good communication skills.
Geographical location USA. Flexible location. The candidate can choose to work remotely or be based in our Michigan office.
