Primary Function / General Purpose Of Position The Registered Mammography Technologist produces high‑quality breast imaging procedures while following guidelines established by the ARRT, ACR, and MQSA. They will perform all screening, diagnostic, invasive, and DEXA scans according to established protocols and procedures for interpretation by a supervising physician.

Essential Job Functions

Performs all breast imaging and DEXA procedures.

Assists the radiologist in invasive breast procedures, ensuring aseptic technique and consent.

Correlates patient’s clinical history with procedure, documenting and conveying information to a licensed provider prior to examination.

Selects and operates breast imaging equipment and associated devices to achieve desired results.

Selects appropriate radiographic technique exposure factors to produce quality diagnostic images.

Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others.

Applies principles of patient safety during all aspects of the mammographic procedures.

Provides patient education and discharge instructions.

Participates in the department’s quality assessments and improvement plans.

Licensing / Certification

Mammography certification and registration with ARRT (preferred upon hire, or must obtain within six months of hire).

State licensure (preferred, unless required by the state where the job is performed).

BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (required, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care).

Education

Associate’s degree from an ARRT accredited institute (preferred).

Work Experience

1 year experience as a registered mammography technologist (preferred).

Training

EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) (preferred).

Picture archiving communication system (PACS) (preferred).
