Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Technician Team Lead and a clinical pharmacist, this role supports pharmacy operations by performing medication preparation, delivery, outpatient prescription filling, and handling controlled substances. Responsibilities include stocking and refilling automated dispensing machines, preparing and repackaging medications, and compounding sterile and non‑sterile preparations following established protocols. Additional duties involve providing clerical support, maintaining inventory, and ensuring accurate record‑keeping.
This posting is for coverage primarily at MEE's surgical center at 800 Huntington Avenue, with occasional coverage at the main campus at 243 Cambridge Street.
Essential Functions
Maintain and monitor medication levels in storage areas.
Repackage and label medications using software.
Deliver medications and supplies to patient care areas.
Fill outpatient and research medication requisitions.
Assess storage areas for outdated or misstocked medications.
Use barcode technology to fill automated dispensing machines.
Support pharmacists in patient care services.
Perform dosage calculations and prepare compounded medications per guidelines.
Restock and maintain compounding supplies.
Identify and dispose of outdated medications.
Triage phone calls and provide excellent customer service.
Assist with inventory management, receiving, and order processing.
Maintain pharmacy records, patient profiles, and prescription logs.
Complete required continuing education to maintain certification.
Organizational Expectations
Communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.
Deliver exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
Participate in performance improvement and teamwork initiatives.
Uphold professionalism in interactions with healthcare professionals.
Regulatory Compliance
Adhere to all state and federal pharmacy regulations.
Properly charge and credit medications.
Complete required compliance training annually.
Qualifications
Certified Pharmacy Technician (PTCB) and valid Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician Registration.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum age: 18.
Working Conditions
Work in the Pharmacy Department with visits to patient care areas.
Exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous substances.
Meet physical requirements, including walking, standing, lifting, and operating equipment.
Additional Information Onsite work at 800 Huntington Avenue, day shift, 40 hours per week, regular employee. Pay range: $18.22–$26.06 per hour.
