Position Overview
The Assistant Extension Agent, 4‑H, is a professional educator who plans, executes, and evaluates research‑based 4‑H programs that support youth and adult development in the county. The role involves volunteer recruitment, program management, community outreach, and collaboration with other Extension agents and local leaders.
Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as manager of the County 4‑H Youth Development program.
Maintain 4‑H clubs, projects, summer day camp programs, school enrichment, and county‑wide 4‑H youth development events.
Develop community relationships with Family and Consumer Science, Agriculture Agents, and Administration.
Recruit, train, and utilize adult, youth, and community volunteers and volunteer leaders.
Promote and encourage participation in county, district, state, and national 4‑H programs.
Supervise the overall 4‑H program, including establishing and maintaining grant‑funded programs and identifying resources.
Respond to client requests for technical information related to youth education.
Attend district and state level youth and professional development events that may require overnight travel.
Work nights, weekends, and summer months as needed; manage scheduling to avoid burnout.
Possibly undertake fundraising responsibilities.

Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor’s degree with 2.5 GPA overall or 3.0 GPA in child or youth development or related field.
Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree and completion of at least one‑half of a Master’s curriculum with 3.0 GPA; or a completed Master’s degree in child or youth development or related field.
Valid NC driver’s license required.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field.
Some 4‑H knowledge or experience.
Grant writing or proposal experience.
Volunteer recruitment, training, and management experience.
Recruitment Information
Anticipated Hiring Range: Minimum Bachelor’s $40,000; Minimum Master’s $45,000; Minimum Doctorate $50,000 (commensurate with experience).
