Position Description: The Department of Economics seeks to hire a tenured Associate or Full Professor in Agricultural Economics. This position is one of six in a cluster hire that will have research and teaching responsibilities, along with affiliations with the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD). The approximate division of responsibilities for this position is 25% teaching, 50% research, 20% outreach, and 5% service. The home college for the position is the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

The individual is expected to develop or maintain a nationally recognized research and teaching program in Agricultural Economics with emphasis on Agricultural Policy, Agricultural Markets, and Agricultural Trade. The successful candidate will publish regularly in refereed journals, present at national and international conferences, engage in outreach, pursue outside funding, advise graduate students, and maintain an active research project under the Agriculture and Home Economics Experiment Station. The teaching assignment is expected to be two courses per year.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Economics, Agricultural Economics or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong training in microeconomics and quantitative methods.

Strong evidence of research interests in agricultural policy, agricultural markets, agricultural finance, or agricultural trade.

Demonstrated evidence of accomplishments in college teaching.

Demonstrated evidence of accomplishments in research.

Demonstrated potential for obtaining and managing grants.

Full Professor Consideration For consideration at the professor rank, in addition to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, applicants must meet the department, college, and university standards for appointment at the professor rank with tenure, including national distinction in scholarship, as evidenced by wide recognition and outstanding contributions to the field or profession and the ability to sustain contributions.

Department and College Description The Department of Economics, with approximately 35 faculty, has a tradition of excellence. Undergraduate program serves about 500 students; graduate program offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Faculty research covers a broad spectrum. The department is jointly administered by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The Iowa State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences has more than 160 years of leadership. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is a collaborative, vibrant community.
