Water Utility Technician II A mid‑level role for someone who can expertly handle critical maintenance and operational tasks, troubleshoot system issues, and mentor less experienced staff. If you have at least two years of experience in water distribution and are ready to be a technical leader ensuring the reliable delivery of safe, clean water, this opportunity is for you!
What You’ll Be Doing: As a Water Utility Technician, you’ll be a crucial part of our operation, performing routine maintenance, installation, and repair tasks for the drinking water system. Your day‑to‑day could include:
System Maintenance:
assisting with the installation and repair of water mains and services, including excavation and pipe replacement. You’ll also operate, inspect, and maintain water system valves and fire hydrants.
Water Quality:
helping maintain water quality by assisting with regular flushing of water mains and collecting and documenting water samples for routine testing.
Customer Service:
responding promptly and professionally to public inquiries, conducting on‑site assessments of citizen complaints, and performing service requests like meter reads and leak checks.
Safety & Compliance:
following OHSHA safety regulations, adhering to proper traffic control and excavation procedures, and complying with all Oregon Drinking Water Services (DWS) standards.
Asset Management:
using asset management software to complete work orders, document infrastructure conditions, and perform utility locates for water infrastructure.
This position requires the willingness to work overtime or be on‑call for emergency situations. You’ll be part of a team that works collaboratively with senior operators, engineers, and City staff.
What You’ll Bring: To be considered as Utility Technician I:
Education:
a high school diploma or GED.
Experience:
one year of experience in general construction and maintenance is required; experience in water distribution or utility operations is preferred.
Licensing & Certification (or Ability to Obtain):
A valid Oregon State Driver’s License by time of hire.
The ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement within six (6) months of hire.
The ability to obtain the Oregon Water Distribution Operator I certification within six (6) months of hire.
The ability to obtain OSHA Confined Space and Traffic Control Certifications within six (6) months of hire.
To be considered as Utility Technician II:
Education:
a high school diploma or GED.
Experience:
a minimum of two years of experience in water distribution or utility operations equal to that of a Water Utility Technician I. Experience working independently and as a team is essential.
Licensing & Certification:
Valid Oregon State Driver’s License.
Class A CDL with tanker endorsement (or ability to obtain within six months).
Oregon Water Distribution Operator I certification (Required); Operator II is preferred.
OSHA Confined Space and Traffic Control Certifications (required within six months).
Cross Connection Specialist certification is preferred.
You must have technical knowledge of water distribution systems, maintenance practices, and Oregon DWS regulations.

If appointed as Utility Tech I The salary range for this overtime‑eligible union‑represented position is $4,692 – 5,988 per month.
