Facilities Manager Located in Ketchikan, you will lead all facility operations, maintenance, safety, and compliance for JAG Marine Group.

Position Summary The Facilities Manager establishes and directs the installation, maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance of all shipyard facilities, equipment, and utility systems. The role also involves security, safety, budgeting, and regulatory compliance, ensuring a safe, efficient, and cost‑effective environment for all employees and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and manage facility repair priorities, preventive maintenance schedules, and equipment relocation plans.

Lead the Preventive Maintenance team, reviewing staffing, scheduling, tasks, spot checks, and feedback to improve efficiency.

Collaborate with project managers to support dock and pier operations, ensuring customer service and vendor coordination.

Maintain safety, cleanliness, and compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and internal policies.

Develop and track annual budgets for maintenance, repair, dry docks, yard services, and security operations.

Investigate and implement energy‑utility conservation and recycling opportunities.

Train and mentor staff on facility processes and safety procedures.

Oversee CAD design and improvements of facility infrastructure.

Administer all facility paperwork, inspections, and compliance items such as crane certifications, backflow preventers, and fire systems.

Ensure all utilities and rolling stock are fully operational and properly maintained.

Maintain ongoing communication with contractors, regulatory bodies, clients, and internal teams.

Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate security personnel, including monitoring surveillance systems and emergency response.

Job Scope The position manages a significant overhead budget (up to $4 million annually) and plays a key role in capital budgeting and capital improvement projects, often exceeding $1 million each. Rapid and creative problem‑solving is essential to prevent unsafe conditions and production disruptions.

Supervisory Responsibility The Facilities Manager directly supervises the Facilities Supervisor and up to 15 craft personnel, with additional oversight of maintenance staff as required.

Interpersonal Contacts Collaborates with all company departments, subcontractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies. Interaction spans from junior staff to company owners.

Knowledge of accounting, cost accounting, procurement, and data processing systems.

Computer competence (Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, database programs).

Knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations.

Thorough understanding of shipyard production procedures, regulatory requirements, and administrative processes.

Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED is required. A BA in business, engineering, or related field is preferred.

10 years of increasingly responsible experience in a marine shipyard or plant engineering environment.

Minimum of 5 years of managerial experience, including at least 3 years of supervisory work.

Experience with shipyard operations, industrial equipment, cranes, and plant utilities.

Professional and technical knowledge of ship superintendents, port engineers, and craft supervisors.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations None required.

Demands Work in a dynamic, fast‑paced office and production environment. 50% in the office, 50% in yard and aboard ships. Requires walking, climbing, confined‑space entry, and ability to lift up to 50 lb. May include overnight shifts, weekends, and up to 5% travel.
