Responsibilities
Protect the civil rights of all individuals on VA‑controlled property.
Prevent, detect, and investigate crimes.
Patrol assigned areas on foot or by motor vehicle.
Subdue persons causing disturbances or threatening harm.
Follow procedures for search and seizure of evidence and contraband.
Obtain search and arrest warrants and execute arrests.
Provide basic first aid and CPR until emergency medical services arrive.
Prepare reports of shift activities and events.
Perform traffic control and assist citizens in emergency situations.
Carry out other related duties as assigned.
Support court coordination and crime‑prevention activities within the jurisdiction.
Work Schedule 0600‑1800; 1800‑0600, rotating schedule. Candidates must be willing to work weekends, irregular hours, and extended hours when required, and may be assigned to related sites.
Requirements
U.S. citizen.
Subject to a background and suitability investigation.
May be required to undergo drug testing.
Probationary period of one year.
Selective Service registration required for eligible males.

Complete an online onboarding process and provide acceptable identification.
Real‑ID compliant driver’s license required as of May 7 2025.
Seasonal influenza vaccination required for all VA Health Care Personnel.
Qualifications
GS‑06 grade level: One year of specialized experience in law‑enforcement or related field (e.g., maintaining order, emergency response, patrol, traffic control). Experience as a security guard or corrections officer is not qualifying.
Comprehensive documentation of experience, including job titles, duties, dates, and hours.
Ability to provide successful results in duties such as securing crime scenes, conducting searches, patrolling, traffic safety, and emergency response.
Physical and Work Requirements Work demands strenuous physical exertion, including running, climbing stairs, and carrying over 50 lb. Requires stamina, agility, and the ability to apprehend armed individuals. Must handle moderate to high risks and hazardous materials, and maintain safety precautions. Valid, unrestricted state driver’s license and satisfactory medical examination are required.
