Pay Range:
$66,847.00/yr – $86,898.00/yr
Summary This position will serve as a Police Officer at the Portland VA Medical Center in Portland, Oregon. The Police Officer will perform a full range of police duties by following and executing rules, regulations, and procedures covering law enforcement, physical and personal security operations, patrol duties, control desk duty, coordination with local courts, and crime prevention activities for the local jurisdiction.
Qualifications
At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑05, including knowledge of basic laws and regulations, law‑enforcement operations, and investigative techniques.
Experience conducting investigations, apprehensions, detention of suspects, traffic control, emergency response, and report writing.
Valid unrestricted State driver’s license with a safe driving record; must pass medical and driver assessment.
Qualified to carry agency‑approved firearms and maintain certification per VA requirements.
Must pass a character investigation, gun‑control background check, and drug‑testing requirements.
Psychological evaluation and medical assessment to ensure ability to perform essential duties.
Flexible schedule: weekends, irregular hours, and extended hours as required.
Duties
Protect civil rights and safety of all individuals on VA‑controlled property.
Prevent, detect, and investigate crimes; conduct searches and seizures.
Patrol assigned areas on foot or vehicle; handle traffic control and accident investigations.
Subdue people causing disturbance or posing threat to self or others.
Use independent judgment when policy is unclear; provide first‑aid and CPR.
Maintain accurate reports of activities and incidents.
Assist citizens in emergency situations and perform related duties as assigned.
Work schedule: Sunday‑Saturday, with potential for compressed or flexible arrangements.
