Our client, a well‑established and rapidly expanding general contractor specializing in commercial construction, is looking to add an Accounting Manager to their growing team.
Salary/Hourly Rate
$90k - $115k
Position Overview
The Accounting Manager will lead and oversee the daily financial operations of a dynamic and growing construction organization, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across all accounting functions. The Accounting Manager will manage a small accounting team, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance oversight to ensure operational excellence. Serving as a key partner to leadership and project management teams, the Accounting Manager will play a vital role in financial reporting, job costing, and WIP schedule management. The ideal Accounting Manager will bring proven experience in construction accounting, strong analytical and leadership skills, and a hands‑on approach to improving processes and driving efficiency. Responsibilities
- Oversee all daily accounting operations, including A/P, A/R, general ledger, and job cost accounting, to ensure accuracy, compliance, and proper cost coding.
- Manage project financials by preparing owner billings (AIA, progress, change orders), reviewing subcontractor invoices, lien waivers, and retention, while driving timely collections and maintaining accurate reporting.
- Partner with Project Managers and leadership to support budgeting, cost‑to‑complete forecasting, profitability analysis, and financial process improvements.
- Lead, supervise, and develop the Accounting team, overseeing month‑end/year‑end close, reconciliations, and continuous efficiency enhancements across all accounting functions.
Required Experience/Skills
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3 - 5 years in a leadership role.
- 3+ years of direct construction accounting experience (WIP, job costing, AIA billing).
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
- Advanced Excel and strong analytical skills.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership abilities.
Preferred Experience/Skills
- CPA designation and/or public accounting experience.
- Proficiency with construction accounting software such as Sage or Procore.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
