ENGINEER LEAD TEST 3 role at HII. Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, is the largest industrial employer in Virginia and designs, builds, and refuels U.S. Navy nuclear ships. Responsibilities

Lead on shipboard systems aboard Nuclear Powered Aircraft Carriers or Submarines during construction/repair. Develop and direct preparation and execution of comprehensive test plans, procedures and schedules for completing systems. Interface with NAVSEA, Electric Boat, and internal departments to coordinate design and testing activities and resolve technical issues. Prepare and present technical reports, analyses, and recommendations to management and external customers. Track overall test progress, troubleshoot and resolve major shipboard technical issues and make recommendations to the department manager as required. Support Sea Trials and test the ship’s mechanical, electrical, and combat systems at sea. Ability to climb on and around ships including stairs, ladders, masts, and scaffolding; willingness to work around moving machinery at heights or in confined spaces on vessels undergoing construction/repair. Provide leadership and project management experience (test coordination, resource planning, budgeting, and test scheduling). Synthesizes customer contractual needs and requirements into system test solutions and coordinates integrated testing activities. Reviews and evaluates test requirements to ensure completeness. Performs technical analysis of complete systems and prepares system-level evaluations. Must Have

Lead Test Engineer (LTE) or Ship Safety Officer (SSO) or Watch Supervisor or Watch Officer Certification or Trade REC Coordinator (TRC) and Trade REC Oversight Agent (TROA) Certification and 4 years of relevant professional/exempt experience. Nice to Have

Working knowledge of shipyard operations, including component fabrication and final outfitting. Ability to interpret and review engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with trades, management, and government customers. Experience as Assistant CTE on Submarine Non-Propulsion Electronics (NPE). Strong problem-solving, leadership, and mentoring skills with the ability to manage small project teams. DOD Security Clearance is preferred, but not required to start. Why HII
