Certified Billing Specialist

Salary:

$24.60 to $26.88 per hour DOE

Reports To:

Revenue Cycle Supervisor

Location:

Nespelem Health Center, Nespelem, WA. 6‑month training in Nespelem, WA with possibility of working in other districts upon completion of training.

Basic Functions Responsible for accurate preparation and submission of claims to third‑party payers, performing medical billing functions, communicating with clients and providers regarding insurance questions, reviewing and revising denials for recoup claims, and completing daily reports for insurance verification, claims submission, insurance billing and research.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree and a certificate from a Medical Billing and Coding course of one year or longer (Transcript required). Alternatively, 2 years of medical billing work experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and third‑party payers within FQHC, IHS, or tribal programs and a national financial association certification (HFMA, AAHAM, or AAPC). Must maintain certification throughout employment.

Valid driver’s license and eligibility for the Tribes’ vehicle insurance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working knowledge of medical billing practices, accounting data entry, and source documentation management.

Proficient with coding sets ICD‑10, CPT, HCPCS, and current third‑party billing regulations.

Strong computer skills—office productivity, specialized revenue cycle software, spreadsheets, databases.

Excellent written and verbal communication, math skills, and human relation skills.

Ability to multitask, meet strict deadlines, maintain data integrity and confidentiality, and learn tribal reimbursement standards.

Detail‑oriented, cooperative team member with positive image representation of the Tribe.

Must be able to function primarily indoors in a sedentary office environment; ambulatory ability to retrieve files and operate office equipment.

Special Conditions

No history of substance abuse in past two years.

No use of illicit substances or prescription medications without health care provider prescription.

Preferences Tribal member and Indian preference will apply; preference will also be given to honorably discharged veterans who are minimally qualified.

Background Checks and Licenses Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribe’s Vehicle Insurance. Pre‑employment background clearance required; check must be maintained throughout employment. Drug testing may be required for safety‑sensitive positions.
