Position:

Medical Billing Specialist (3 positions)

Salary:

$21.82 to $26.58 per hour DOE

Reports To:

Revenue Cycle Supervisor

Location:

Nespelem Health Center, Nespelem, WA. 6‑month training with possibility of working in other districts upon completion of training.

Basic Functions:

Performs clerical standard and procedures of the Medical Billing Office through direct contact with eligible programs using computer‑aided data entry screens.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required.

12 months billing and coding experience with Anatomy and Pathophysiology training.

Willing to obtain a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Professional Biller (CPB) certificate from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) within 36 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.

Valid driver’s license and eligibility for Tribes vehicle insurance required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and pathophysiology, medical and behavioral health services, provider specialties, and insurance terminology.

Current knowledge of third‑party billing regulations.

Knowledge of changes in coding and billing requirements from Medicare, Medicaid, and other third‑party payers.

Working knowledge of medical claims processing practices, procedures, and terminology.

Proficiency in office clerical procedures and computer‑aided office productivity software.

Proficient writing skills for basic business correspondence.

Mathematical ability to compute totals, percentages, and other basic arithmetic.

Effective communication and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to maintain HIPAA confidentiality.

Ability to research, compile, analyze, and interpret claims data.

Organizational skills to prioritize work and meet deadlines.

Phone and in‑person communication skills.

Ability to work in a primarily sedentary office setting.

Work remote ability optional.

Note: The position is safety sensitive and subject to pre‑employment drug testing. It may also be subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

Tribal Member and Indian Preference will apply. Preference will also be given to honorably discharged veterans who are minimally qualified.

If required, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver's license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. Background clearance requirements may apply and must be maintained throughout employment.
