Job Description
Responsible for the ongoing engineering and new product development for the Low boy Trailers product lines. Duties include determining functional design characteristics necessary to assure safety, operational performance, maintainability, manufacturability, reliability, and cost levels required of the product line.
Responsibilities
Develop and document clear product designs for both new and existing Low boy Trailers.
Develop and model designs in SolidWorks.
Produce initial production cost estimates and bills of material.
Produce manufacturing documentation, including drawings with pertinent BOMs and process instructions.
Self-manage multiple concurrent projects, mindful of critical path items and tasks to minimize development time from inception to initial production.
Work with Production Team on the shop floor to resolve production issues efficiently and effectively.
Provide descriptions of components, assemblies, and machines to production and inventory control.
Perform necessary mathematical analysis to determine proper design characteristics.
Monitor product performance and initiate changes as required to advance safety, performance, manufacturability, and improve profit.
Provide technical assistance to sales, marketing, customer service, production, inventory control, manufacturing engineering, and engineering test/reliability departments.
Provide technical consultation to other engineering personnel as required.
Required Skills/Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with a strong mechanical background.
Proficiency with SolidWorks CAD software, at least 5 years’ experience and good parametric modeling techniques.
Proficient with basic measuring equipment and processes; ability to reverse engineer parts and shapes.
Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes/practices, machining, welding, sheet metal, and shop tools.
Ability to design for manufacturability and serviceability.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience using Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Preferred Skills/Experience
Modeling with surfaces and sheet metal features in SolidWorks.
Knowledge of welding processes, tooling & fixture design.
Experience wiring harnesses.
Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
Qualifications
A Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline is required. A broad understanding of machine structures, mechanisms, metal fabrication, and other manufacturing processes is required. Understanding of hydraulics, electronics or electrical systems, pneumatics, and machine controls may also be required. Strong proficiency in 3‑D CAD utilizing SolidWorks is required.
