Department California’s Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) brings together the state’s recycling and waste management programs to move the state toward a circular economy that reduces waste and reuses all materials. CalRecycle’s mission is to protect California’s environment and climate for the health and prosperity of future generations through the reduction, reuse and recycling of California resources, environmental education, disaster recovery and the transition from a disposable to a fully circular economy.
Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Environmental Program Manager I (Supervisory), the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) will: provide first‑line supervision for the Environmental Scientist staff applying principles of scientific research, chemical, biological, physical, and environmental sciences; oversee staff determination of violations and their impact on public health, safety, and the environment; apply statistical methods, integrated waste management economics, public health and resource management to assess corrective action; supervise and ensure adequate staff review of basic hydrology, geology, landfill gas plans, permitting and technical documentation; evaluate environmental monitoring data and ensure compliance with state standards; provide oversight, training, and mentoring for staff and local enforcement agencies; review inspection reports for technical adequacy; maintain inventory of facilities that fail to meet SMS and enforce compliance orders; and supervise staff travel as required.
Special Requirements
Valid California Driver’s License (CDL) is required.
