Legal Billing Specialist Role:
As a Legal Billing Specialist, you’ll play a key role in managing the firm’s billing operations and ensuring compliance with client guidelines. This position requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Generate and distribute prebills, ensuring attorneys review and return edited versions promptly.
Apply retainers, write‑offs, and discounts in accordance with firm policy.
Process accurate and timely client invoices while ensuring compliance with client billing requirements.
Manage third‑party e‑billing systems such as TyMetrix, LegalTracker, CounselGo, Passport, Onit, and CounselLink.
Coordinate submission of e‑bills and communicate with attorneys regarding short‑pays, rejections, appeals, budgets, and accruals.
Execute complex billing tasks, including multiple discounts, split‑party billing, and e‑billing.
Respond to client requests for cost back‑up documentation.
Input and maintain accurate client and matter data in the billing system.
Monitor compliance with client billing guidelines, including rates, task codes, and approval requirements.
Research and resolve billing inquiries both internally and externally.
Provide billing forecasts, accruals, and ad hoc reports to clients and management.
Manage retainers, process checks, monitor banking activity, and post deposits to the time and billing system.
Review A/R aging schedules and generate daily cash reports.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of experience in legal billing or law firm finance.
Strong knowledge of legal billing and e‑billing systems such as Elite 3E, T360, and CounselLink.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines independently.
