Description The 20 attorneys in the Airport Division act as legal counsel to the Department of Airports, also known as Los Angeles World Airports, and to the Board of Airport Commissioners. Responsibilities involve litigating contract and lease disputes, preparing a variety of documents, and providing counsel to management.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with contract matters including construction bidding and drafting, reviewing and analyzing contract documents such as bid/proposal packages and bonds.
Enforce provisions of payment and performance bonds.
Review and process construction claims and change orders.
Assist in claims avoidance and resolution procedures, insurance, risk management and bonding requirements.
Litigate in state and federal courts and administrative agencies, and alternative dispute resolution, involving delays, construction defects, cost overruns, design errors, regulatory compliance and related claims.
Defend imposition of stop notices.
Assist with project management issues, drafting contracts for airport needs, contract administration, interpretation during performance, negotiations, and dispute documentation.
Requirements
License to practice law in the courts of the State of California and applicable United States District Courts.
Minimum of three (3) years of construction law experience.
Excellent writing and problem‑solving skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively with public officials, non‑attorney employees, and the public.
Strong oral communication skills.

Location The Airport Division is located at Los Angeles International Airport, One World Way, Room 104, Los Angeles. The position may be assigned at any location within the City of Los Angeles.
Probation Appointment is subject to a two-year probationary period as required by Section 1050 of the City Charter. Successful completion results in tenure.
