Great Plains Manufacturing is seeking a Robotics Engineer to support all new and existing robotic manufacturing technology projects – especially in the area of continuous improvement, implementation of best methods and standardization of processes.
This position works Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Great Plains Manufacturing Construction Equipment facility in Salina, KS.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Gain proficiency in Fanuc Robotics Systems, including integration, programming and troubleshooting robot controllers and work cells
Become proficient using emulation software, including analyzing robot programs and cycle time studies
Responsible for offline development of robot programs for new products using emulation software and robot test cells
Create automated cell concepts, learn and understand Robotics controlling software; ensure proper operation of cells; manage Robotic projects and ensure compliance to safety and appropriate industrial and GPM standards
Develop and maintain internal robot training plans for GPM personnel
Collaborate with Fanuc, GPM Paint Manufacturing Engineers, GPM Controls Engineers, and GPM IT team to optimize the CE paint system on controls, network and automation solutions
Support cross‑functional teams in the development and implementation of automated systems in support of manufacturing including APRISO MES implementation at the CE plant
Support Paint Manager and supporting staff in tracking the performance of the paint system via the use of Control Room
Participate in creating and measuring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Troubleshoot issues with paint robots to ensure design and programming meet all paint quality requirements
Recommend and implement improvements and solutions to support manufacturing
Identify, justify and implement new technology and manufacturing techniques to improve safety/ergonomics, reduce manufacturing cost (labor, material, inventory, scrap), and improve product/process quality
Mentor controls and robot technicians and support internal technical training
Become proficient in Allen Bradley and Omron programmable logic controllers to the point of being capable supporting and/or backfilling Controls Engineer position
Gain proficiency in analyzing and managing industrial networks
Manage and update Robotic, Controls and Automation standards for GPM
Work with vendors and suppliers regarding sourcing and technology information updates
Work with other GPM Business Units to provide technical assistance
Follow all Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wear prescribed safety and protective equipment
Other duties may be assigned that require other qualifications, physical demands, and/or work environment
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotic/Mechatronics Engineering, or related degree from a four‑year college or university; four years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
Lean advocate with demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing processes
Knowledge of robotics and process control systems, including Allen Bradley PLCs, HMIs, electrical drives, etc. helpful
Understanding of a variety of manufacturing equipment and systems
Proficient with Microsoft Office Products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
Must be familiar with AutoCAD, 3D Solid Modeling and Creo
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
