Job Summary and Qualifications
As a Medical Laboratory Scientist at Lakeview Hospital you will be an integral part of our Laboratory team. You will receive blood specimens, perform blood tests, and study the morphology of the components of blood. You will also operate both automated and manual equipment, conduct antibody screening and cross‑matching, provide critical lab value notifications, and implement new testing methods to keep the department current with technology.
Receive blood specimens and perform blood tests, studying the morphology of blood components.
Perform routine or special clinical laboratory tests using automated equipment, manual testing, and microscopic analysis.
Maintain and use laboratory equipment including chemistry analyzers, ion‑specific electrodes, osmometers, and other analyzers.
Execute antibody screening, antibody identification, and cross‑matching procedures needed for blood component administration.
Notify nursing units and/or physicians of critical lab values.
Implement new testing methods, products, and instrumentation as appropriate.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Medical Technology program (Associate’s degree acceptable) or a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology with appropriate certification (may be hired prior to graduation upon completion of required coursework).
Nationally recognized certification as a Medical Technologist (MT/MLS or MLT) from the American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent.
License completion within one year of hire.
One year of experience in a hospital or other clinical laboratory setting is preferred; new graduates will be considered.
American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and certification.
