WaveWorks makes wireless communication solutions for the next wave of connected devices. Our technology delivers ultra-low power, small form factor, and standards-compatible wireless communication by reflecting, rather than emitting, energy. This backscatter-based approach enables orders of magnitude lower power consumption while maintaining long range and high reliability.

WaveWorks is expanding our engineering team and searching for high-performing, dedicated individuals to help us blaze new trails.

We’re seeking an experienced Antenna / EM Design Engineer to lead the design, simulation, and validation of compact, efficient antennas and radiating structures supporting our next-generation backscatter and low-power wireless systems. This is a hands‑on, on‑site role based in Seattle, WA.

ROLE

Design, simulate, and optimize antennas and EM structures at sub‑GHz, 2.45 GHz, and beyond.

Perform EM simulations and parametric studies using industry‑standard tools (e.g., HFSS, ADS, CST, Momentum, or similar).

Prototype, measure, and characterize antenna and RF performance, including impedance, efficiency, radiation pattern, and more unique metrics tied to backscatter systems performance.

Collaborate closely with IC, packaging, and mechanical design teams to integrate antenna solutions within constrained physical form factors.

Support EMC and link performance validation.

Contribute to innovation in advanced backscatter communication systems.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

At least five years of professional experience in antenna design and validation.

Experience designing for compact IoT devices, wearables, and other constrained wireless devices.

Demonstrated proficiency with 3D EM simulation and RF measurement tools.

Strong understanding of electromagnetic theory, impedance matching, and RF system integration principles.

Experience working cross‑functionally with IC, PCB, and mechanical design disciplines.

Clear, methodical approach to design documentation and communication.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in EM modeling of on‑die structures and packaging.

Experience supporting or leading EMC / FCC compliance testing and product certification.

Familiarity with Bluetooth, 802.15.4, Wi‑Fi, LoRa, and similar wireless protocols.

Experience co‑designing RF and mechanical structures for performance and manufacturability.

With our unique backscatter technology, WaveWorks is positioned to meet the wireless connectivity needs of a wide range of emerging applications — from industrial sensing to wearables and smart peripherals. Join us as we redefine what’s possible in wireless.

WaveWorks is committed to a friendly and welcoming working environment and offers a comprehensive benefits package for full‑time employees. We do not discriminate based on race, gender, age, religious affiliation, or any other legally protected status.
