Job Title: Mammography Technologist
Reports to: Mammography Supervisor
Type of position: Full-time, Non-Exempt 40+ hours/week
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for working directly with patients and assisting radiologist while administering ionizing radiation in the course of mammography procedures. This professionally trained person will be responsible for the operation of the Digital mammography system, Technologist Workstation, Secureview, CAD, Magview, Radiology Information System, Picture Archiving System, Vacuum assisted Biopsy system. This person may be required to operate the Bone Densitometer and Stereotactic equipment upon occasion. This position is responsible for providing patient care and patient safety as established by department standards. This position is responsible for performing a variety of basic secretarial, clerical and housekeeping functions such as customer service, examination and work area cleaning, telephone communications, computer system data entry, information retrieval, MQSA and ACR standards, maintaining supplies, infection control. This person must be capable of providing education and support services for our patients. This position, in addition to superb technical skills, will also require the ability to follow the Imaging Associates service commitments to customers and fellow staff. This position, under supervision of the radiologist, performs mammographic examinations utilizing a variety of radiologic equipment.
JOB DUTIES
Procedures: Performs a variety of mammographic procedures according to clinical and national standards.
Documentation: Responsible for accurately completing records, daily quality assurance and improvement information, meeting regulatory standards. Obtains and documents patient history information.
Equipment: Calibrates, maintains and troubleshoots equipment. Optimizes equipment and supplies to benefit operations.
Supplies and Inventory: Stocks work area daily. May be involved in ordering and stocking general supplies.
Safety and Education: Compiles with national radiation standards (ALARA) Completes education necessary to maintain licensure or certification required for position.
Communication: Communicates with physicians and other members of the team concerning patient status, diagnosis, or related information. Operates multiple communication and telecommunication systems. Coordinates scheduling for diagnostic exams. Communicates with team members by regular participation in staff meetings.
Implements care/service that recognize age/diversity specific needs/issues of customers served.
Performs other duties as assigned.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Starting Salary: $42–$60/hour, based on experience.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Education: Successful completion of an AMA approved training program for radiologic technology.
Experience: Two years experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferred. One year clinical experience as a mammographer preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Must be ARRT registered. Mammography registration required within one (1) year of hire. Must remain in good standing with governing bodies such as: American College of Radiology(ACR) and Mammography Quality Standards Act(MQSA)
Other Qualifications: Requires extensive knowledge of breast anatomy and physiology. Requires knowledge of breast pathology and mammographic signs of pathology. Must have knowledge of all mammographic positions and the ability to radiographically record the required information. Must be capable of preparing rooms for biopsy and maintaining sterile environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift/push/pull unassisted up to 75 pounds on an occasional basis (up to 33% times per day). Must also be able to lift / push / pull / carry unassisted up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis (up to 66% of day).
May be required to assist with moving patients who need maximum or total assistance.
Demonstrates proper body mechanics and knowledge of correct techniques for lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying.
Demonstrates proper body mechanics and knowledge of correct techniques for all types of transfers or patients to cover unusual situations / emergencies as well as in the duty of direct patient care.
Must have ability to grasp with strength of 50 pounds.
Requires simple motor skills to type on an ultrasound keyboard or a computer.
Requires simple manipulation skills such as writing.
Must be physically mobile to scan. Must possess mobility to both upper limbs in order to properly scan patients.
Requires large amounts of walking and standing, 90% of time on feet, approximately 60-70% of time walking.
Constantly required to perform gross body coordination such as walking, stooping, and use of both upper body limbs for positioning.
Must have hand and eye coordination to properly localize and position questionable areas for optimal visualization.
Must have hand, eye and foot coordination to properly position and compress simultaneously.
Requires visual acuity to visualize small anatomy and pathology on small screens while scanning.
Must be able to adapt to dim lights.
Must be able to distinguish between different colors.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be competent to make technical and medical decisions, yet follow instructions.
Requires good mental health to deal with stressful situations and a variety of contacts (i.e. co-workers, physicians, patients, etc.)
