Job Description Apex Systems is seeking a motivated and qualified, Top‑Secret‑cleared Systems Administrator for a federal client in Omaha, NE.

The systems administrator is responsible for providing technical support and troubleshooting for a range of systems, ensuring compliance with DoD 8570.01‑M standards.

The role involves supporting end‑users, managing user accounts, maintaining endpoint devices, and performing basic network and system maintenance under the supervision of senior administrators.

Primary Responsibilities

Identity & Account Management

Create, modify, and delete user accounts.

Reset user passwords and lock/unlock accounts.

Modify user account privileges per security guidelines.

Create and manage e‑mail group mailboxes.

Respond promptly to customer inquiries regarding account issues.

Document account issues and resolutions for future reference.

Maintain and update technical documentation, including user manuals and FAQs.

Endpoint Device Management

Set up and configure laptops, workstations, thin clients, and other endpoint devices.

Install peripherals such as printers and scanners.

Download and install standard drivers for endpoint devices.

Perform routine maintenance tasks, including system updates and software patches.

Implement required software patches and security fixes to ensure endpoint security.

Test and validate device configuration and security patches before restoring any device to the network.

Troubleshoot hardware and software issues on laptops, workstations, and other endpoints.

Restart workstations remotely when required.

Identify and escalad high‑priority issues to senior technicians or management.

Train customers on new systems and software.

Provide technical support and troubleshoot system issues efficiently.

AV & Collaboration Tools Management

Manage and troubleshoot AV equipment in conference rooms and auditoriums.

Assist with the operation and scheduling of AV systems such as EZ Room Scheduler and Webex Phones.

Provide basic user support for AV systems and collaboration tools.

Document issues related to AV tools and provide resolutions.

Backup & Recovery

Monitor and verify backups using solutions like Avamar.

Perform routine data recovery tasks under supervision.

Immediately notify NDRC and operational chain when incidents or intrusions are detected.

General Responsibilities

Document customer issues, resolutions, and changes made to systems.

Maintain and update technical documentation, FAQs, and user manuals.

Implement and validate software patches, ensuring compliance with cybersecurity standards.

Test new technologies for security and functionality before implementation.

Collaborate with senior system administrators to resolve complex issues.

Participate in team meetings to discuss system improvements and user feedback.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

United States citizen with a final Top Secret (TS) security clearance and eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).

2‑5 years of experience in system administration or a related IT field.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and remain calm under pressure.

Certified at IAT II level or higher per DoD 8570.01‑M.

Experience in system administration and cybersecurity.

Strong knowledge of DoD security policies and procedures.

Ability to work collaboratively with various cybersecurity and IT personnel.

Advanced experience with endpoint management tools and backup solutions.

Excellent problem‑solving and incident response skills.

Preferred knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Windows operating systems, and virtualization (Type‑1 hypervisors such as VMware ESXi).

Preferred Skillset

Linux Administration: Advanced working knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

Linux Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in Bash scripting and other scripting languages (e.g., Python) for automation and configuration management.

Virtualization: Hands‑on experience with Type‑1 hypervisor deployment and administration in a mixed environment.

Security Hardening: Experience implementing DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and hardening guides on Linux endpoints.

Patch Management: Experience with enterprise‑level patch management tools for RHEL and other Linux distributions.

Windows Experience: Familiarity with Windows operating system administration.

Backup Solutions: Practical experience with monitoring, verifying, and troubleshooting enterprise backup platforms such as Avamar.

Collaboration Tools: Experience supporting common collaboration and meeting room tools (Webex, EZ Room Scheduler).
