Healthcare Facilities Investigator, Bureau of Tuberculosis Control
Hiring Rate: $74,536.00 (Flat Rate)
Position Summary: The New York City Bureau of Tuberculosis Control (BTBC) works to prevent the spread of tuberculosis (TB) and eliminate it as a public health problem in NYC. The Office of Epidemiology reviews and assesses TB exposures in residential and non‑residential congregate settings, conducts investigations to identify, notify, and evaluate contacts, and analyzes genomic and epidemiologic information to detect and respond to TB outbreaks. We are seeking a Healthcare Facilities Investigator to join the Expanded Contact Investigation Team. The investigator will conduct TB case review, data analysis, contact investigation, and transmission assessment in healthcare facility settings across NYC, coordinate with external partners, and compile and analyze data to inform TB prevention and control policy.
Responsibilities
Review and enter data in the Health Department's TB surveillance and case management system.
Systematically review case records to identify and assess potential TB exposures and facilitate timely public health intervention.
Collaborate with the Expanded TB Contact Investigation and TB Case Management teams to review information for highly suspected and confirmed cases and support data‑driven TB care and response activities.
Assist hospitals, hemodialysis centers, home health agencies, and other outpatient healthcare facilities in investigating and responding to TB exposures.
Assess results of investigations to determine if further expansion or public health intervention is warranted.
Conduct routine and ad‑hoc data analysis and present findings to internal audiences.
Perform additional duties as required.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of the health care delivery system.
Experience working and communicating with patients and/or the public.
Experience working and communicating with clinicians or other health care or social service providers.
Knowledge of core epidemiology principles.
Basic knowledge of infection control practices in healthcare facilities.
Experience with data review and analysis.
Experience with structured interviews, medical terminology, and conducting medical chart reviews.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
