Long-term substitute teacher needed for one of High Tech High's elementary schools in San Diego. The role requires teaching 4th grade students for the remainder of the academic year.
Job Summary Under the general supervision of the School Director, teachers prepare lesson plans and educate students, assigning homework, grading tests, and maintaining a classroom environment that fosters academic growth and aligns with High Tech High’s design principles of equity, personalization, authentic work, and collaborative design.
Duties
Embodies High Tech High’s design principles of Equity, Personalization, Authentic Work, and Collaborative Design in all work activities and actions
Creates daily lesson plans with project‑based assignments that are engaging, educational, and exciting for the students
Plans, prepares, and delivers instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
Incorporates goals, competencies, and objectives into lesson plans in ways that directly apply to students’ lives
Achieves school and course‑wide performance goals for every student in class
Grades assignments and homework regularly to keep students updated on their progress
Identifies students who are struggling with learning or emotional challenges and finds them the resources they need
Ideal Candidate
Ability to efficiently and effectively manage the time of self and others
Professionalism, discretion, sound judgment, equity, honesty, and personal accountability at all times
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Exceptional administrative and organization skills
Proficient knowledge of teaching strategies and methods
Ability to incorporate goals, competencies, and objectives into lesson plans that directly relate to students’ lives
Critical thinking skills
Ability to manage diversity
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree
A valid California K‑12 teaching credential (including a 30‑day Substitute Permit or a Teaching Permit for Statutory Leave)
Salary & Benefits Temporary assignment: if 12 weeks or more, benefits and a prorated salary commensurate with the contract period; if under 12 weeks, hourly with no benefits.
