This Correctional Support Licensed Trades Supervisor I (CSLTS I) is a Journeyman Plumber Supervisor for the Denver Correctional Complex. Primary responsibilities include ensuring the safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates; supervising an inmate work crew and ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant completion of all preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of plumbing systems for the facility. Responsibilities

Safety and Security

- maintains safety and security of facility and work sites; trains and guides inmates in the proper use of controlled items, keys, tools, equipment and chemicals; enforces security procedures by conducting work site searches; monitors workplace environment and inmate behavior; initiates verbal reprimands when warranted and, if necessary, physically controls inmates with the proper application of restraints or use of force techniques; monitors, supervises and escorts inmates according to facility policy and limits inmate access to restricted areas; performs inmate counts and transportation; responds to emergency situations; writes and submits required reporting. Through conscientious observation and adherence to policy, position promotes a safe and secure environment. Supervision

- provides supervisory or work lead duties for assigned inmate workers; trains and instructs staff and inmates in the appropriate use of tools, equipment and procedures; stresses safe construction practices and PPE use; embodies a professional workforce with honesty, integrity, and ethical behavior. Inmate Supervision

- participates in interview and hiring to ensure appropriate placement on work crews; trains inmate workers in plumbing operations; monitors project progress, inspects work, ensures timely completion; conducts inmate evaluations and manages hours and pay; reduces inmate idleness and prepares inmates for community reentry. May supervise additional inmate crews in the absence of another supervisor. Operations

- oversees safe, efficient, compliant, and cost-effective project completion; responsible for facility plumbing maintenance including design, installation, daily maintenance, remodel, and repair; plans projects, estimates supplies and costs, coordinates with other trades, monitors progress and quality, and completes required documentation. May be assigned to assist other trades supervisors and crews. Other requirements and duties as described in the original posting apply, including facility call backs, long hours, outdoor work, and working in confined spaces. Minimum Qualifications:

Four (4) years of employment experience performing preventive, predictive, and corrective plumbing maintenance in a residential and/or commercial setting. Active Journeyman or Master Plumber license issued by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA). Substitutions: formal apprenticeship or degree may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis. Transcripts may be requested for substitution. Required competencies include strong work ethic, integrity, decision-making, plumbing proficiency, ability to read blueprints, communication with inmates and staff, supervisory skills, safety compliance, emergency responsiveness, and more. Preferred qualification includes work experience in commercial, industrial, or correctional settings. Required and Preferred Competencies: Strong work ethic, integrity, dependability, sound judgment, and decision making Proficiency in diverse plumbing operations/repairs/maintenance; ability to design, install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems Ability to read blueprints and manage projects from start to finish Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups of inmates in a highly regulated environment Supervisory/work lead skills to motivate inmate workers Knowledge of safety and security with inmate supervision Willingness to respond to emergencies and to support CDOC mission of community re-entry Ability to use physical force when necessary and to work in high, tight spaces and in inclement weather Fluency in English (written and spoken) and ability to create accessible documents Important Information The Assessment Process: Applications are reviewed for minimum qualifications, followed by comparative analysis, suitability screening, eSkills assessment, oral/written performance assessments, or SME review.
