Overview
This Correctional Support Licensed Trades Supervisor I (CSLTS I) is a Journeyman Plumber Supervisor for the Denver Correctional Complex. Primary responsibilities include ensuring the safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates; supervising an inmate work crew and ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant completion of all preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of plumbing systems for the facility. Responsibilities
Safety and Security: maintain safety and security of facility and work sites; train and guide inmates in the proper use of controlled items, keys, tools, equipment and chemicals; enforce security procedures by conducting work site searches; monitor workplace environment and inmate behavior; initiate verbal reprimands; physically control inmates with proper use of restraints or use of force techniques if warranted; monitor, supervise and escort inmates; respond to emergencies and submit required reporting; promote a safe and secure environment. Supervision: provide supervisory or lead duties for assigned inmate workers; set work standards aligned with agency mission; train staff and inmates in tools, equipment and procedures; emphasize safe construction practices and PPE usage; model professional ethics and teamwork. Inmate Supervision: participate in interview and placement to ensure appropriate training; train inmate workers in plumbing operations; monitor progress, inspect work, and ensure timely completion; evaluate inmates, track hours and pay, create schedules, resolve grievances; support community re-entry goals. Operations: perform hands-on instructional work with inmate crews; manage plumbing design, installation, maintenance, remodeling and repair; plan projects, estimate supplies and costs, order materials, and coordinate with other trades; ensure quality and timely delivery; complete documentation such as work orders and incident reports. Minimum Qualifications
License: Active Journeyman or Master Plumber license issued by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA). Attach a copy of your license to the application. Experience: Four (4) years of employment experience performing preventive, predictive, and corrective plumbing maintenance in residential and/or commercial settings. Substitutions: Formal apprenticeship or accredited degree with competencies equivalent to the required experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis; attach transcripts if using substitutions. Required Competencies: strong work ethic, integrity, dependability; sound judgment; proficiency in plumbing operations/repairs/maintenance; ability to read blueprints; effective communication with inmates and staff; teamwork; supervisory abilities; safety and security awareness; emergency response readiness; willingness to support inmate re-entry; ability to work in high-stress and confined spaces; English language proficiency and written communication; ability to create accessible, plain-language documentation.
